The Franklin woman’s soccer team had a tough day on the pitch Sunday, losing to Thomas More College, 6-0.

“Thomas More is a very good squad and will be a measuring stick for the woman. They are one of the top three teams we will face this year,” first-year coach Scott Moulton said.

“Lauren Wietmarschen is the scorer and Deanna Goshdigian is the playmaker for the Saints.

The Saints also have many role players who will distribute the ball and give them scoring chances,” said Moulton.

In the 21st minute Thomas More struck first with Goshdigian scoring of a pass from Wietmarschen. The 36th minute Goshdigian blew another shot past sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Parks.

Thomas More was not done. In the 40th minute Jessica Lewis put a blast right through Parks’ hands and Thomas More when to the half up 3-0. Parks had 16 shots fired at her in the half, seven coming from the right foot of Goshdigian.

The second half was again all Thomas More with goals from Wietmarschen, Alex Crouch, and Krystol Miller at the 55th, 72nd, and 75th respectively. Parks faced nine shots in the second half.

“It was a good game in the respect of it showed that we need to continue to work harder and to play faster paced soccer. Regardless of the score all the girls played with heart, and they always do,” stated Moulton.

“I am not disappointed with the outcome, just that against a team like Thomas More, we can’t play kickball. We didn’t get are touches and didn’t play as a complete team,” Moulton said.

The two teams are now looking ahead to their next contests on the pitch. The 3-1 Saints make another trip to Indiana from Crestview Hills, Kentucky to challenge the Anderson Ravens next Saturday.

The 1-2 Grizzlies have to wait until Sept. 11 to host the Maple Leafs of Goshen College for a 4 p.m. contest.
