By Matt Muncy, September 24, 2009

Franklin junior Heather Waterman was named HCAC Cross Country Runner of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.

“This is a very significant award,” Waterman said. “It is just a reflection of my hard work.”
Waterman finished fifth in the Little State Division of the Indiana Intercollegiate last Friday. She ran the five-kilometer race in 19:18. The Grizzlies finished fifth among the 14 teams that participated.

Waterman received the same award for the week of August 31st through September 6th after winning the Sodexho Grizzly Invitational at Hoosier Horse Park on Sept. 5. She posted a time of 18:49.81in the 5k, which is the third best mark in meet history and the best ever posted by a Franklin athlete. Waterman’s 5K time was also the third best ever run by a female Franklin athlete.

Waterman was named All-HCAC as a sophomore and All-HCAC Honorable Mention as a freshman.

“Every race it is my goal to receive this award,” she said. “I want to perform well and win it for a third week.”
