Men's soccer team loses final home game
Franklin College Grizzlies lost to the Rose-Hulman Engineers 3-0 Sunday. The loss drops the Grizzlies to 3-14-0 (1-5 HCAC).
The first half was a balanced game between both teams. Franklin was able to handle the Engineer’s offensive attack. Franklin was not able to get any good shots off and went into halftime tied with the Engineers 0-0.
“We held them for 45 minutes. That was a great effort,” said sophomore goalie Matt Foreman.
Franklin’s defense came strong in the second half, but was not able to defend Rose Hulman’s strong offensive attack for long.
Sophomore Corbin Clow scored the game’s first goal for Rose-Hulman in the 52nd minute. Clow followed his first goal with a second one in the 66th minute. The Engineer’s final goal came in the 79th minute when junior Rhys Evans scored.
The Grizzlies never gave up and played strong the whole game, but were outshot 9-2.
“We just need to work on getting opportunities,” said head coach Shaun Mahoney.
The Engineers were in first place going into today’s game while Franklin was settling in at the bottom in seventh place.
“They are undefeated in the conference and I guess this is what people would have expected to happen with this matchup,” said Mahoney.
The Grizzlies have scored only two goals in the month of October and have been shutout in their last four games. The loss was the fifth in a row for Franklin.
The Grizzlies will look to end their losing streak when they play at the College of Mount St. Joseph Wednesday at 7 p.m.
