Grizzlies struggling

The Franklin Grizzlies soccer team has gotten off to a little bit of a rocky start to open the season. The Grizzly men are currently setting at a 2-5 record through the first three weeks of the year.
The Grizzlies started the campaign off with two losses to Maryville College on September 1 and Trine University on September 3. The Grizzlies were able to score two goals against Maryville off the foot of Drew Brown and also Grant Krevda. Kredva’s was off of a corner kick by Craig Wood, in there opening match lose to Maryville 3-2. Trine took the Grizzlies 90 minutes and won the game 2-0 in the Grizzly home opener.
The Grizzlies hosted Eureka College on September 6 and took there first victory of the year as they scored a goal in the first overtime period to take the game 4-3. Sinjin LaBonne led the charge for the Grizzlies scoring two goals on the day. Andreas Kapsalis contributed one goal on the day and Ray Pena scored the game winner.
The Grizzlies took on DePauw University on September 9 and were unable to come out with a victory as they were defeated 1-0. Franklin turned around on the 12th and defeated Illinois College 1-0 off of a goal set up by Krevda for Kapsalis in the first overtime period.
The Grizzlies are coming off of two losses to Millikin College and Thomas More College. Millikin was a defeat of 3-2 seeing goals from a corner kick by Ryan Sullivan for Labonne’s 3rd goal on the season. Kapsalis also scored his 3rd goal as well on September 13. Thomas More was played on September 15 and was a defeat of 5-1.
Coach Mahoney was not available for comment on the games thus far. The Grizzlies have a week to prepare for a tough opponent in Earlham College on September 23 and the conference season opens up with Manchester College on September 26. Both games are played at Elsey field in Franklin and are set for 5:30 and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
