The Franklin College men’s golf team placed second of five teams at the 2009 Manchester College Fall Invitational, with a score of 629. The one-day, 36-hole event was played at Honeywell Golf Course on Oct. 3rd. The final round closed with Defiance College taking the team title after shooting a 621.
Junior Jason Kaylor led the way individually for the Grizzlies, after firing a 154. Kaylor ended up tying for ninth, 11 shots back of the leader.
“I feel that I played pretty well for the conditions that we played in. However, I left a lot of shots out there because it took me a while to get used to how the greens would check,” said Kaylor.
Junior Eric Whitaker finished up the invitational tying for 13th. He placed a combined score of 158.
Two seniors finished in a tie for the Grizzlies. Matthew Payne and Matt Hicks both shot a 159 for the tournament.
Sophomore Kyle Ratliff rounded out the scoring for the Franklin College Grizzlies. He shot a combined 165 on the day.
Kaylor continued, “As a team we did not accomplish our goal to win the tournament but most of us all improved on our second 18 holes which was nice to see. We had two players go 84 then 75. So we made a little run at it on the last 18 which shows we didn’t give up after a poor first 18.”
Indiana Wesleyan’s Adlia Deisler took the individual crown, shooting a 145. The medalist entered the event as an individual contestant.
The Franklin College Grizzlies next event is the DePauw Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10th, at 11 a.m.
