Grizzlies open conference schedule with loss

By James Hornett, September 21, 2008

The women’s soccer team began conference play on Saturday in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Anderson Ravens.

Both goals came in the second half of the match. In the 72nd minute the Ravens struck with a goal off the foot of freshman Autumn Tolliver. The second goal followed just four minutes later from freshman Krysta Altvater.

“The first half was very even and we played how we needed to,” coach Scott Moulton said. “Both goals come off of us not going through the ball and not being aggressive to get after it.”

Sophomore Goalkeeper Chelsea Parks faced 11 shots through out the game and made nine saves on the day. The Grizzlies netted five shots on goal.

“We won one 50/50 ball all day out of 30 or 40 balls,” stated Moulton. “They wanted it more then we did today and that is why the outcome was the way it was.”

The 1-6 Grizzlies hope to end a five-game skid on September 23 against the 1-6 Thunder of Trine University. The game is slated for 4 p.m.
