Grizzlies drop to 1-15
The Grizzlies traveled to Hanover to face the Panthers Wednesday afternoon, but lost 3-0, dropping to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the HCAC.
“Hanover is a better team then last year,” said head coach Scott Moulton, referencing a 5-10-2 record a year ago. “Hanover has done a great job getting ready for today and we look to stay competitive with them for 90 minutes. They are comparable to us as well and they give 100 percent.”
The first half the Grizzlies played the Panthers to 45 minutes of scoreless soccer. The Panthers registered 13 shots on sophomore keeper Chelsea Parks. Freshman Brittany Muston managed a single shot on goal during the half, which was Franklin's only shot. Muston also received her first yellow card on the season in the 38th minute.
“We played even with them the first half and held them scoreless,” said Moulton.
The second half saw the first scoring of the game by the Panthers. The goal came in the 50th minute off of a shot from 25 yards out from senior Stephanie Tribbett over the outstretched arms of Parks.
“It was a typical goal, just out of the reach of Parks and there was no way to stop it from floating in,” said Moulton.
The Panthers were then held scoreless again until the 74th minute where they struck again. Freshman Shelby Henderzahs deflected the ball past Parks, with the assist going to classmate Emily Williams.
The 77th minute capped the scoring in the match with a goal from the foot of freshman Abbey Schmaul. The goal ended the scoring in the match 3-0.
The Grizzlies netted another shot in the game off of a free kick from freshman Sarah Hume. The Panthers had another shots on Parks and she made 17 saves on the day.
"We played solid in the first half and we had three mental lapses in the game that led to the three goals,” said Moulton. “The second goal was because we pushed up a defender to try and generate offense and try for a tie.”
“Sophomore Jena Elder and Senior Katie Hartman played excellent games and hopefully we can have the last two games where we can be competitive and play soccer with both teams,” said Moulton.
The Grizzlies will play host to the defending conference champions Rose-Hulman (9-5, 3-2 HCAC) Sunday at 2 p.m. in the last home match for the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies can shake up the conference picture as well and could knock out the Engineers.
