Grizzlies 2nd at Anderson Invitational

The Franklin College men’s golf team placed second of seven teams in the 2009 Anderson Invitational, with a score of 605. The Grizzlies finished 26 shots in front of the third place team, Mount St. Joseph. The 36-hole, par 72 tournament was played at Anderson Country Club in Anderson, Indiana. The final round wrapped up, September 20th, with DePauw University taking the top spot, placing a score of 587.
Junior Eric Whitaker (Coatesville, IN/ North Putnam H.S.) led the Franklin Grizzlies individually after firing a 74 and a 73 for a combined score of 147. He finished up third, four shots back of the leader.
Two Grizzlies tied for ninth, each shooting a 154 for the tournament. Senior Matthew Payne (Terre Haute, IN/ North Vigo H.S.) shot a 80 and a 74. Senior Tom Moore (Indianapolis, IN/ Southport H.S.) fired a consistent 77 in the first round and final round.
Junior Jason Kaylor (Greenwood, IN/ Center Grove H.S.) rounded out the second place Grizzly squad after shooting an 85 and 82. The combined score of 167 was enough to tie Kaylor for 34th of 52 golfers.
DePauw’s senior Peter Haller (Winnetka, IL/ New Trier H.S.) took the medalist honors after posting a score of 143, including a tournament best 69 in the final round. DePauw University as a team led the event after the fist round of play, September 19th with a score of 293. The Tigers never looked back as they shot a 294 on Sunday, September 20th, in the final round.
