Franklin picked sixth, ninth in men's, women's soccer polls
The Franklin College men's soccer team has been selected to finish sixth in the HCAC in a poll by conference coaches. Franklin received 34 points in the poll.
The coaches picked Rose Hulman to repeat as conference champions, winning 8.5 first place votes out of 9. Transylvania was selected second in the poll with 71.5 points. Manchester College placed third in the poll with 57 points. Hanover College finished fourth with 49 points and was followed by Anderson University (48 points), Franklin, Bluffton University (32), Mount St. Joseph (19) and Defiance College (14).
Last season, Franklin finished 4-15, going 2-6 in conference play to finish seventh in the conference.
On Tuesday, the Franklin College women's soccer team was selected to finish ninth in the HCAC. Franklin received 11 votes.
Transylvania was selected to win the conference title, with seven first-place votes. Defending champions Mount St. Joe came in second with 68 points and one first-place vote.
Rose-Hulman placed third in the poll with 59 total points and one first-place vote, while Hanover College finished fourth with 54 points. Manchester College received 51 points and finished fifth, while Bluffton University (33 points), Anderson University (30), Defiance College (20) and Franklin rounded out the poll.
Last season, the women's team finished in ninth in the HCAC after going winless in conference play. The team was 1-17 overall.
Franklin will have 17 incoming freshman this season, while returning nine players from last year's team.
The men's team opens the season on Aug. 21 with an exhibition game against the University of Indianapolis. The women's team opens at home against Eureka College.
