By Bryan Ault, September 10, 2008

The Franklin women's golf team finished third behind Olivet (622) and DePauw (630) with a team score of 670 at the Anderson University Fall Invitational at Killbuck Golf Course on Sunday.

Natalie Daugherty led Franklin with a score of 166, and finished inside the top ten individually. Other scores for the Grizzlies included Samantha Marshall (172), Brittany Stephens (168) and Brittany Brownrigg (170). Grace Adams finished the first day with an 84, but withdrew due to illness.

Finishing behind Franklin was Hanover (687), Manchester (701), Transylvania (708), Anderson (723), Defiance (825) and Rose-Hulman (incomplete).

Coach Roger Lundy was pleased with the team's performance.

"Overall we were eight shots better than last year," Lundy said. "Everyone played great. Our two freshman (Stephens and Brownrigg) were outstanding in their first match. And our #2 Grace Adams was shooting her best round before leaving after day one."

Lundy was also pleased in how much the team has improved.

"I thought we did great. We're improving. Behind our starting five, we have five freshman who are getting better every day."

Franklin will travel to Madison for the Hanover Invitational at Sunrise Golf Club on Saturday at noon.
