Adams demonstates true meaning of "student-athlete
By James Hornett, April 18, 2009

“I came to FC for the golf program because I met [head coach] Roger Lundy the summer before graduation at his camp,” said Grace Adams, two-time All-HCAC golfer for Franklin College.

Adams didn’t know it yet, but she was coming to play for two-time coach of the year. Lundy won coach of the year at Manchester in 2003 and at Franklin in 2007.

“I had never heard of Franklin before this camp and I wanted to play golf in college,” Adams continued. “I took a visit and loved it.”

Grace came to Franklin College to major in Accounting and took on a business minor. Adams keeps herself busy as the Vice President of Finance of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She is also a member of the accounting club, business club, drama club, and Wave 3.

Adams’ club membership even extends to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Indiana CPA (INCPA).

“I balance all of these with one thing, time management,” Adams said. “I have to write everything down and keep two calendars, which tells me where I need to be.”

Adams is also a big fan of post-it notes because she often forgets things.

“I’m trying to get the most out of college life, I have always been involved because I like to stay busy,” Adams said.

The accounting and business programs are very demanding and Adams is proud to say she has survived all that she has.

After graduation, Grace plans to continue with accounting and take the CPA Exam.
“I already have a job lined up for me once I graduate at the United States Customs and Border Protection, Office of Finance,” Adams said.

This happens to be one office that Grace interns with, currently. She is torn between sticking with Customs and going into public accounting.

“My ultimate dream is to become a special agent for the IRS, they get a gun,” Adams said with a smile.

“I’m sure that these dreams could change in the near future.”

Adams, a produck of Norwell High School, is a junior at Franklin.

Adams shot a 174 to finishing fifth at the Conference tournament in the fall at Rose-Hulman. Last season, she finished in sixth with a score of 181.

Adams has to fill the shoes of Katie Tewell who was the medalist for three years running until her graduation last year.  The Women’s team will travel to the University of Saint Francis to participate in the Battle at the Brickyard on Saturday and Sunday.
