Opinion: Attention Mr. Darwin, Start enforcing natural selection
I’m beginning to fear where this world is heading.
But it’s not because of the economy. It’s not because of the war or sky-rocketing gas prices. It’s not because of global warming or because of the way other countries view the United States.
It’s because of people.
I’m so glad Charles Darwin came up with the idea of natural selection. Basically Darwin said you need to learn to adapt, or you will become extinct. The strong will survive.
If only this were happening.
More and more, we see stupid people in the news. And it puts grief in my heart when I realize that these people are controlling the world I will someday work in.
One such example occurred at University of Texas at San Antonio. A group of students were brought together to create an honor code, which would be used to discourage plagiarism and cheating. But in order to come up with the honor code, the students simply copied another school’s honor code. Without attributing it.
Wow. Talk about irony.
The student heading the committee creating this honor code claimed the plagiarism was an oversight.
Of all the things to overlook, plagiarism is not the one you want to choose. Spelling "honor" wrong, that’s an oversight. Putting eight periods after one sentence, that’s an oversight. Copying your entire code from someone else, is NOT an oversight. That has to be done intentionally.
These kids will be working alongside us someday. And that’s what scares me.
A video recently surfaced on Youtube depicting some doctors from the Philippines removing an object from a patient’s rectum. But the doctors were giggling and laughing while removing this. They even took pictures with cell phones.
Once the doctor got the spray can out, (How the patient got a spray can in his rectum, I’ll never know.) he took the cap off and began spraying the nurses.
Isn’t there some sort of a law or code against that? Did the doctors not get around to plagiarizing their honor code yet?
These doctors are performing surgery on us. My life could be in the hands of one of these doctors someday. And that’s what scares me.
Earlier this month a bank was robbed in Palo Alto, Calif. The man was in his late 60s, had grey hair and was sporting a beard.
But that’s not the worst part. The worst part was how the robber made his escape.
The thief entered and left in a motorized wheelchair.
I want everyone to picture the episode of "Seinfeld" when George is being chase down the street by the elderly gang riding electric wheelchairs. Remember all the people walking past them?
Is it really that difficult to catch someone in a motorized wheelchair? And according to the article where this was found, the police were "looking for a white Ford van that the suspect may have been hoisted into after the robbery."
So this guy robbed a bank, left in a motorized wheelchair, got hoisted into a van, and nobody was able to stop this guy? And the police still haven’t found him yet?
These are the law enforcement officials that keep us safe at night. And they can’t even catch a guy who got away in a motorized wheelchair.
We give these guys guns! And that’s what scares me.
All these people are keeping me awake at night. I find it hard to stay calm when I think about all the stupid things going on in all the corners of the world.
And outlets like Youtube aren’t exactly helping the situation. Now all the morons in the world with video cameras can go out and film the stupid things they and their friends can do with their free time.
I wish Darwin would have struck a little sooner. He’s supposed to keep people like Bush out of the White House.
And that’s what scares me.
