Senate wants more info for organ donors
INDIANAPOLIS--Sen. Jean Leising, R-Oldenberg, wants to see a more informed process for after-death donations.
That’s why she is sponsoring Senate Resolution 4, which asks the Senate to take a closer look at organ donations. The Senate Health and Provider Services committee approved the resolution Wednesday.
Jay Reichmuth, manager of the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, spoke on behalf of the funeral profession.
“We’re not here to agree or disagree on organ procurement our problem is basically the procedure in which permission is granted for the process,” Reichmuth told the committee.
There are certain donation procedures for the deceased that do more damage, Reichmuth said.
Reichmuth said he just wants transparency to the family members about the donation process when procurement associations talk to the families.
The measure now moves to the Senate floor.
