Senate committee passes one bill, recommends resolution for other
INDIANAPOLIS--The Senate Natural Resources Committee passed a bill, 7-0, Monday that would give the Department of Natural Resources the power to declare "infested" areas of land with large numbers of pests.
Senate Bill 424 would allow the Department of Natural Resources the ability to define the limits of a quarantined area, because simply using township lines was considered too confusing.
The other bill taken up by the committee was SB 416, sponsored by Sen. Jean Leising, R-Oldenburg. The bill would take 10 percent of entrance fees to Brookville Lake and give them directly to Franklin County.
The committee felt the bill should apply to all lakes and parks in Indiana, so the bill will become a resolution and be taken up during summer hearings.
