Leading legislators respond to State of the State Address

By Staff Report, January 13, 2009

"I thought the governor gave a good sound speech, hitting all the right notes.” – Senate President Pro Tempore David Long, R-Fort Wayne.

“I would say from the reaction of the House Democrats that he’s going to face a challenge on almost every one of those fronts right now.” – Sen. Luke Kenley, R-Noblesville.

"The governor continues to challenge us to do our best, even in difficult times, and he is so right in that regard." – House Minority Leader Rep. Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis.

“We must refocus on jobs and the economy,” Bauer said. “I didn’t hear anything about that, and I will tell you that there are ways of using the money we have to stimulate the economy.” – Speaker of the House Rep. B. Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend.

“The governor’s speech tonight was a missed opportunity.” – Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson, D-Bloomington.
