Stephens leads improving Grizzlies

The Franklin College women’s golf team finished fourth out of 16 teams over the weekend at the Depauw University Small College Classic.

“It was our best finish at the event so far,” said head coach Roger Lundy.
 
Sophomore Brittany Stephens led the Grizzlies with a fifth place finish. She shot a 77 Saturday and an 83 Sunday to finish with a total of 160. Two other contestants finished with a total of 160 as well.
 
Senior Natalie Daugherty finished 13th with a total of 165 followed closely by junior Samantha Marshall who tied for 14th with a score of 166. Sophomore Brittany Brownrigg finished 34th with a total of 173 and senior Grace Adams finished with a combined score of 178 and wound up 43rd.
 
“We are slowly getting better, said Lundy. It was our best finish of the season.”
 
St. Mary’s College won the event with a team score of 635, Depauw University was second with 653, Olivet College was third with 661 and the Grizzlies finished three points behind Olivet with a team score of 664.
 
The women’s golf team will hold a fundraiser next Saturday at the Legends Golf Course in Franklin at 2 p.m. followed by a one day invitational on Sunday at the Legends.
