RAs offer chance for sex talk
By Rachel Friedman, March 28, 2008
“Does having sex hurt?” and “How many sex partners is too many?” were just some of the questions asked on campus Monday night.Students gathered in the Branigin Room for the program “Let’s Talk about Sex...in the Dark,” hosted by Franklin College resident assistants.
Before students sat down, they were asked to write down a question for the opposite sex on an index card. The questions ranged from just general questions about the opposite sex to questions about sex.
To keep answers confidential, men and women sat at opposite sides of the room with the chairs were turned around so the sides couldn’t see each other. As the name suggests, the lights were also turned off.
Sophomore RA Katie Stephens said that she thought there were a few immature questions, but she said she still thought there was a good mix.
“I feel that people got to know what they wanted,” Stephens said.
Freshman Stephanie Adams said “It was good, but some parts were kind of boring…it wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be, but otherwise it was informative.”
Sophomore Amie Pope did a lot of the planning for this event. She said that everyone was in charge of the publicity and there were some small jobs that had to get done, but the event itself was pretty simple.
“Publicizing was the biggest thing,” Pope said.
Some ways this event was publicized were through emails, signs around campus and table tents in the cafeteria. There was also a Facebook event created by sophomore Claire Kitchin.
“I feel that we got about 70 people to come because of all the publicity that we had,” Pope said.
Pope said that hopefully they will do this event next year. However, she said a few changes could be made.
One was getting more men to come to the program and she said she hoped to get microphones for any future events.“Overall, I was happy with [the program],” Pope said.
