Originally, Kira Brant had no plans of opening her own store in Franklin.

Instead, she was selling her products, Christian greeting cards, stationery and artwork from a little shop she had driven by in Greenwood, Brant told jamiecarie.com. She remained there for a year before moving to a larger building and began to add other items to her inventory. Two years later, Brant moved to Franklin and opened Kira’s Cottage Christian Store along with her family.

The store started to grow after the move, Brant said. She had a plan of what she wanted, which included selling more books and Christian-based items.

Brant is now running a full-service Christian book store. “We specialize in books, Bibles, stationary, gifts and more,” she said.

Kira’s Cottage usually offers a wide range of art classes, as well. Brant said she has a degree in art and loves to teach art to adults and children. The classes include watercolor, drawing, colored pencil and acrylic.

They are not currently offering lessons while they settle into the new location, but they will start to offer them again soon.

Kira’s Cottage has a wide target audience. Brant said, “We try and work with many churches in the area for curriculum and church supplies.” She also said they have a lot of women come in and they hope to get more men and teens to come in now.

Brant said they moved to the new location because they needed more space. The new spot on Jefferson Street, the former Imagination Station location, offers much more visibility.

Although the new store has only been open a few days, Brant is already seeing positive feedback from the move. She said they are getting people stopping in from Don and Dona’s, people just stopping in after seeing it in passing in addition to her normal frequent customers.

“The funny thing is that I do not have much time to design any of my greeting cards or stationery anymore, but I feel that the Lord has led me to what He wants me to do,” Brant said. “I love it.”
