I.Q. Web upgraded to new Self-Service System

By Rachel Friedman, February 8, 2008

The new Self-Service System replaced I.Q. Web because Information Technology Services needed to make an update.

IT Services makes updates two to three times a year. When they updated this time, however, they decided to go ahead and install Self-Service, a new program.

Director of IT Services Lisa Mahan said that they could have waited to start the program but decided to do it now.

“[The change] was coming regardless, so we went ahead with the new program,” she said.

The company that provides Self-Service System is the same company that provided I.Q. Web.

Mahan said that the makers originally intended on only making the product more efficient, but ended up making an entirely new program instead.

Even though Self-Service System is a newer product, it doesn’t cost anymore than I.Q. Web.

The program streamlines the use of passwords on campus by automatically making it the same students and faculty use to reach their e-mail accounts or log into their computers.

Registrar Brooke Worland said that it was one way the company thought that this program would be more efficient. She is also hoping that with the change registration will go a little smoother.

Worland said, “The Self-Service System isn’t only beneficial to the students, but also for the faculty. Now I won’t have to keep unlocking student’s passwords so they can get into their accounts.”

However, Mahan said the college is looking to rename the program and welcomes student input.
