Homecoming kicks off
Homecoming, known for the football game at the end of the week, started with with an intense competition in the faculty/staff vs students flag football game despite Wednesday’s chilly, damp conditions. The students ended the faculty’s two-year winning streak with a 53-33 win. Sophomore Antonia Wilson said she was excited that students won the event, even though she couldn’t believe it. Many of the faculty and staff members were looking forward to a third straight win. Admissions Counselor Nick Torres of the faculty team said he was confident in a three-peat, but the students got the win. The Student Entertainment Board sponsored the event and handed out Homecoming T-shirts. This traditional celebration invites the coming home of Franklin college alumni, and this win was only the beginning of the week filled with festivities. This includes welcoming three more into the athletic Hall of Fame. The 2009 inductees included 1966 graduate who excelled in football and was among the last players to play both offense and defense. He later went on to become a successful coach. The other two inductees, Stephanie Kramer Bot and John Holden, were basketball standouts during their time at Franklin. Kramer Bot, a 1995 graduate is still Franklin’s leading scorer with 1,796 career points. Holden, who graduated in 1992, is third on the all-time scoring list. Immediately after graduation, he spent one year in Australia playing for the Shepparton Gators with fellow Franklin College teammate Scott Roberts. Averaging over 32 points per game, Holden led his team to the Victoria League Championship game. Homecoming continues tonight with the pep rally and traditional privy burn on Forsythe Street at 9 p.m., where the privy burning first began. Senior Martha Vance, president of SEB, called this tradition a "fun, traditional Franklin College thing."
