College receives grant to support student service members and veterans
Franklin College was recently awarded a $12,000 grant from Operation Diploma, an initiative of the Military Family Research Institute (MFRI) at Purdue University. The grant will help with outreach to and support for the college’s student veterans, service members and their families.
The program is funded by a $5.8 million gift from Lilly Endowment, Inc.
The grant allows organizations to better serve student service members and veterans by promoting academic success and tearing down barriers to higher education. It will serve students entering college for the first time and those reentering college after an extended service or deployment.
Franklin College counselor Becky Roberts will be the project director overseeing the Student Veteran Support Team, which will consist of seven other college staff members.
The team will attend a number of specialized training seminars to help them develop programs and policies to boost academic success of student service members and veterans.
