Athletic fields to be called Grizzly Park

Franklin College’s new athletic fields will be known as “Grizzly Park,” honoring the request of  Franklin College Trustee Margot Lacy Eccles.

Grizzly Park will include a new softball field, new tennis courts, a new facility for track and field events, the existing baseball field, practice fields and new fitness trails for runners and walkers. 

Construction on the east side of campus began last year and is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving of this year.

The project is funded by Eccles' donation in honor of her husband, Robert Stuart Eccles. Eccles was a teacher, coach and administratior at seven schools, radio operator and freelance writer. He died in 1997.

Eccles’ gift is the first of the college’s “The Future Unfolds” campaign.
