Another strong cross country finish

Franklin College men’s and women’s cross country teams finished in second place Saturday at the Hanover College’s Madison-Kiwanis Invitational.
The men’s team scored 42 points in the 6k run while the women scored 36 points in the 5k run. The University of Indianapolis won both events with 17 points in the men’s and 25 in the women’s.
On the men’s side junior Jake Hojnacki was the top FC runner for the second event in a row. He finished fifth with a time of 20:44.00. Senior Scotch Swango was close behind Hojnacki in sixth place with a time of 21:01.00. Sophomore Jay Druba placed eighth at 21:25.00.
“Jake never had to be a front runner before, but he has accepted the responsibility and has stepped up, said head coach Paul Sargent.”
Junior Heather Waterman was the top runner for FC on the women’s side. She placed second with a time of 19:49.00, 16 seconds behind the winner Stephanie Cave from U of I.
“Heather we knew had to be our number one this season. She was one of top runners last year, said Sargent. “
FC had four other top 20 finishers in the race. Senior Kristi Brown finished fourth at 20.23.00, sophomore Shannon Egold placed fifth at 20:47.00, freshman Katie Spellman at 21.24.00 with an 11th place finish and sophomore Holly Hatch finished 17th with a time of 22:07.00.
The Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana State University is the next race for the cross country teams, this Friday at 3 p.m.
