Saga with style: Pizza Bagels

By Carey Shea, March 6, 2009

Welcome to the second installment of Saga with Style, a guide filled with tips and tricks to keep your cafeteria journeys new and interesting. This week’s special ingredient—bagels.

Now bagels are an easy way to liven up many a meal. The focus of this week’s column, though, is the pizza bagel.

All you need:

1 Plain Bagel

6 oz Marinara Sauce

5 oz Shredded Cheese

4-6 Pepperoni Slices

First get a plain bagel, slice and toast it. Then go to the grill station and apply marinara sauce to each slice. Take the bagel over to the salad bar, add shredded cheese and then head over to the “Sub”stantials station for the pepperoni or any vegetables. Take the mini-pizza to the microwave in the seating area, heat for 30 seconds to one minute and enjoy.

There are several variations that can be made to make this recipe unique to any individual taste. For instance, instead of pepperoni, add BBQ sauce and cut up grilled chicken to make a BBQ chicken pizza. Add black olives, green peppers and tomatoes for a Veggie Delight Pizza. Truly you are limited only by your imagination.
