SEE

“The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”

You can never tell where you will make new friends. In “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” it happens to be during the Holocaust, and coincidentally, between a Nazi’s son and an imprisoned Jewish boy in a concentration camp. Since the boys don’t understand what’s going on around them, their worlds are turned upside down by the revelations they make throughout the movie about their families and themselves. It’s being hailed as one of the best movies of the year, even though a sad ending is unavoidable with such a serious setting.

HEAR

John Legend “Evolver”

John Legend has one of the most soulful voices in music today, and he puts it to good use in his third album, “Evolver”. There are hints of funk, reggae, and of course, soul with a light piano in the background. He also has guest appearances from Andre 3000 and Kanye West, and Will.i.am helped produce on one of the singles. This is a great album to listen to while taking a bubble bath with candles surrounding you, or for those romantic nights with a loved one. Either way, you won’t be disappointed with his recording.

TASTE

“Better than sex cake”

It’s a great way to use that left over Halloween candy.

Bake a German chocolate cake in 9 by 13-inch cake pan, as directed on box. Let it cool slightly and poke little holes in the top of the cake with a pencil. Dribble sweetened condensed milk (seven ounces) and caramel sauce (six ounces) over cake.

Let stand for over an hour until the cake has completely cooled. Frost with whipped topping and sprinkle crushed candy bars over that. Refrigerate.

READ

“A Mercy” by Toni Morrison

Set 200 years before her most famous book, “Beloved,” “A Mercy” describes the lives of a group of orphans who are cast away by their parents. It’s a heartbreaking tale of how broken dreams and innocence lost can affect those who are thought to be tough. It’s said to be one of Morrison’s best works with its poetic accounts of the lives of these lost people. She’s able to mix in her knowledge of history and myth, but also what she knows of ordinary life.

LIVE

Dreams

We all have them, but what do they mean? Here a few unique items and their interpretations in relation to dreams.

Cabbage: Don’t waste time on petty things. You live for life’s challenges.

Walking stick: You are jumping commitments too quickly and will suffer as a result.

Mace: A quest for objectivity over subjectivity. Emotions do not rule your actions.

Zoo: Symbolizes loss of freedom. It can also mean chaos and confusion in your life.
