INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Democratic Party has requested a judicial review of the Indiana Recount Commission's decision last month to allow Secretary of State Charlie White, a Republican, to remain in office, despite the questions about his residency when he voted last year.

Despite the walkout by Democrats in the Indiana House of Representatives, the Statehouse remained busy through the week.

NDIANAPOLIS—Even though Indiana House Democrats are in Urbana, Ill., Marion County House Democrats were able to participate in a Marion County Town Hall meeting at Messiah Baptist Church via Skype Thursday evening.

Though its Democratic members are still in Illinois, the Indiana House of Representatives remains in operation.

Top Statehouse Republicans say they have decided to kill the controversial bill that Democrats call a catalyst, but not the only cause, of their decision to flee the state.

Democrats in the state House of Representatives walked out and relocated to Urbana, Illinois, on Tuesday in an effort to kill House Bill 1468, which passed through committee on Monday morning.

Tuesday night, the House Democratic caucus released a statement saying that they would stay in Illinois until Republicans were willing to compromise on seven bills, including ones dealing with right to work, school vouchers, unemployment insurance and minimum wage. Republicans vowed not to yield to what they called a “political stunt.”

On the second day that members of organized labor showed up at the Statehouse by the hundreds to protest an anti-union measure, Democrats in the state House of Representatives refused to go in to session Tuesday in an attempt to kill the measure.

After about an hour of discussion, frustrated Democrats walk out of a spacial budget committee meeting with plans to explore other options.
